Ramen has finally become popular in Oslo, and the first noodle bars are popping up around the city. Several Asian noodle soups are served at various restaurants, but genuine Japanese Ramen restaurants can also be found.

Here are a short list of genuine Japanese ramen in Oslo :

Japanese Dining Sato

Frognerveien 10, 0257 Oslo

A Japanese family restaurant run by veteran chef Sato san. The informal place is often visited by Japanese people as they serve daily dishes from Japan. This is not a place for romantic dates or fancy business dinners, but a cozy neighborhood  restaurant with a wide menu. They serve all the basic ramen dishes in addition to some weird versions. The most experimental visitors can try the natto ramen topped with fermented soy beans.

Sapporo Ramen Bar

Mathallen Oslo, Maridalsveien 17, 0175 Oslo

Inage san was tired of all the crossover Asian ramen dishes served around Oslo. He wanted to introduce the pure original ramen dishes from his hometown Sapporo. He couldn’t find the right flour in Europe, so he ended up importing his own noodles directly from Japan. He also import wagyu beef as is served at the wagyu ramen dish. The soups are tasty and most of the staff can speak Japanese. The restaurant is located at Vulkan next to Mathallen where Inage also have a small shop selling Japanese takeaway bento boxes and Japanese groceries.

Obento

Bernt Ankers gate 4, 0181 Oslo

Obento  is a Japanese grocery store where you can buy rice, curry, miso, furikake, instant noodles and other Japanese food downtown in Oslo. They also serve some Japanese fast food dishes, and on the menu they have the typical Tonkotsu, Shoyu, Miso and Tempura Ramen. Everything I served in simple plastic dishes, but it’s a nice meal to enjoy while shopping Japanese food.

Koie Ramen

A busy and packed ramen restaurants in the heart of the trendy Grünerløkka district. They serve home made gyoza dumplings and delicious ramen soups. Reservations are not possible so come early to avoid que.
